  • Question:
I am going to a Career Fair tomorrow dealing mostly with the broadcast industry. I am seeking a career in advertising marketing or PR. I do not want to tell them this bc I don't want to seem like I can't decide which career I want. Is there a way to sum up this area of the media?

Also if there is a way to have 1 resume that will be great. I plan on having 3 resumes changing the words in the objective statement from "public relations" to "marketing" to "advertising". Do you think I should just take out my objective statement so I can just have 1 resume to give out? I do not want a recruiter to pass me up bc they think I am stuck in a given field.

    Answer:
If you hand a broadcast company your PR resume and later they need someone who is interested in advertising what then?

Is your background in any of these fields or are you coming directly from school? Have you had experience in these areas?

Your resume should state that you have an interest in promoting the company or products that the company sells. In broadcasting you can be effective is marketing as you have background in that area or an interest in that area ... give examples. You are creative and have good ideas for effectice advertising and you feel you can have a strong voice for promotions and public relation.

With all of this going for you how could they not be interested? Also make sure you look your best. For PR and ad jobs they are searching for the "look".

    Best.

    Other Answers:
Tell them the truth-it is a fair where you can ask the questions and get info that will help you make a decision. You are probably young so will not be expected to know what career you want without giving all areas a try and learning whether this one or that one is for you.
Just be honest and learn what you can.

My advice is use all three. As a previous employer of labour i would most certainly like the person with several qualifications that would enhance my business.
Be not hasty in your speech if you are being interviewed. Hesitate a little before answering any questions to give you thinking time.
    Good luck.
