This week in PR (22 December)

News in brief

  • Twitter has tightened its rules on hate speech, and suspended the accounts of Britain First and two of its leaders.
  • The CIPR has published a research report: Brexit and Public Relations in 2018. ‘For public relations professionals, this moment in our history represents an opportunity to demonstrate strategic leadership.'
  • It’s hard to win attention, especially on the shortest day and just before the Christmas break. But did I really want to think about elfs and sex games (teabagging?) and add to a brewing social media storm? So I won’t mention the company behind this charming Christmas stunt. You probably know it already; the backlash has already begun.
  • Sex and humour do have their place in effective communication: see below for my blog headline of the year. ‘Premature Jubilation: Does Christmas come too early?’ This from Jenny Craig, an Ulster University student.

#prstudent #bestPRblogs

Here’s our pick of the best posts by those studying public relations and/or aspiring to work in PR.

At the mid-point of the academic year, here are the leading individuals and universities in our #bestPRblogs contest. I have nothing but praise for Conor McGrath and his Ulster students - but there must surely be lots of shy English students out there waiting to be discovered! I hope to hear from you in 2018.
